Kathy was the lone female on an all-male Varsity Golf team at Charlotte Latin, because the NCISAA did not have a Women’s Division until 2008. She overcame an 8-over-par 80 during the final round of play to capture the 1978 PGA Junior Championship, and in the spring of 1979 was named the Outstanding Woman Golfer of North Carolina.

After her Latin career, Kathy attended the University of Tulsa where she became a two-time NCAA All-American. In 1982, she won the NCAA Championship and competed on the US Curtis Cup and World Cup teams.

Kathy joined the LPGA Tour in 1983 and recorded her first victory in 1985 at the US Women’s Open, followed three years later with a victory at the Konica San Jose Golf Classic. Other career highlights include tying for 8th at the 1993 du Maurier Ltd. Classic — one of the LPGA Tour’s four major championships — posting a career-low score of 66 during the first round of the McCall’s LPGA Classic in 1994 and tying for 8th at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic in 1997. The first athlete from Charlotte Latin to be internationally recognized, Kathy played on the LPGA Tour for 17 years until 2000, and was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in 2002. Her most recent coaching role was at Florida Atlantic University, where she served as the Head Coach of the Women’s golf team from 2014 to 2018.

Kathy graduated from South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biblical Studies. She and her husband, Joe, have three children and live in Boca Raton, Florida — where they founded the Solid Rock Christian Church.
