Hall of Fame
David (Dave) A. Thompson served as Charlotte Latin's first athletic director from the founding of the school in 1970 until 1985. During those early years in the School's history, he led the development of both the athletic department and Latin's physical education program. He also served as the Hawks Varsity Boys' Basketball Team coach for 10 seasons, garnering a winning record every year.
Dave was a co-founder and the first president of the Charlotte Independent Athletic Association. He also served as president of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association and was instrumental in building that organization. In 2010, he was inducted into the NCISAA Hall of Fame in recognition of his work organizing the association and for his service as the association's president during the formative years.
Coach Thompson died in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Rhetta, and their children, Michael Thompson '79, Rene Thompson '81, Bobby Meyer '82, Michael Meyer '83, and David Thompson.
