As a member of Latin’s varsity wrestling team, Cameron won more than 20 wrestling tournaments in his career and was voted most outstanding wrestler in eight of those. Cameron was a four-time NCISAA state champion and placed second as an 8th grader. Cameron was the first 2-time All-American wrestler at Charlotte Latin, placing third and fifth at the National Prep Wrestling Tournament in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Captain of the Mat Hawks his sophomore, junior and senior years, Cameron had an undefeated record for three years in North Carolina competitions, with his only losses coming in nationally-ranked tournaments. His 1987 state championship team placed 11th in the National Championship, held in Lehigh, PA. This same team was ranked #2 (AA class) in the state – the first independent school to rank in the top 10. Cameron’s 1988 state championship team placed 10th in the National Championship. Cameron was also the first independent school wrestler in history to be named part of the all-state team his senior year by Mat News Magazine. He is the only Latin wrestler to win the prestigious St. Albans tournament in Washington, D.C., where he was also voted the Most Valuable Wrestler. Cameron finished his wrestling career with an overall record of 122-6.

Cameron was also a captain and starting halfback for the undefeated 1987 State Champion Varsity Football team. He was an All-Conference running back during his junior and senior years and a two-time All-State running back for independent schools. Coach McNulty describes him as one of the toughest, hard-nosed athletes, while also being a gentleman on and off the field.

Cameron received wrestling scholarship offers from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Clarion State. He accepted the scholarship at UNC (ranked in the top 20 in NCAA) and wrestled from 1988 to 1992.

Cameron and his wife, Latin alumna Joy O’Keefe Dickerson ’88, live in Greenville, SC, with their four children, Graham, Emmy, Davis and Brady Dickerson.
