Mr. William Howard Pitt Jr. is a member of Charlotte Latin's Founding Board of Trustees and was instrumental in all aspects of the establishment of the School's athletic programs. He made significant contributions to the development of the campus, particularly the track/stadium field where he ensured the irrigation would be set up properly by placing the water lines under the track. He is credited with hiring Coach Bob Patten and establishing the Hawks football program. Founding Board Chair Frank Thies once said that Mr. Pitt "kept things straight in meetings" and was a strong leader in the early days of the School.

An athlete himself – he was captain of the Duke University football team - his passion for the athletic programs stands out among the early leaders of the School.

Mr. Pitt lives in Charlotte. He and his late wife, Anna, are the parents of Susan Pitt Herring, Mariah Pitt Waltemyer '77, Mary Howard Pitt Lassiter '79 and Bill Pitt '86.
