Coach Downing has been part of the Charlotte Latin athletics community for many years, serving in a variety of assistant coaching roles across multiple programs. He began his coaching involvement in 2000 as an assistant coach with Middle School Girls Basketball (2000–2003) and continued in that role with Middle School Girls Softball (2001–2004). Since 2019, he has served as an assistant coach with Middle School Boys Golf and continues to support the program, contributing his experience and love of the game. A lifelong golfer, Coach Downing brings a strong personal passion for the sport to his work with student-athletes. He holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from Dickinson College, an M.A. in History from the University of Delaware, and an M.Ed. in Independent School Administration from Columbia University. In addition to coaching, he is a faculty and staff member at Charlotte Latin and remains closely connected to the school community as a parent of two former and current Hawks. His sons, Brendan (Class of 2026) and Connor (Class of 2018), are both lifelong Charlotte Latin students.
