Latin alumna Elizabeth Owen was a four-year varsity basketball player for the Hawks during Coach Smith's tenure. She went on to play at Meredith College and later graduated from Wingate University with a degree in physical education. She returned to her alma mater in 2015 to work in the Upper School office, teach Prime for Life, and coach as a JV basketball assistant, but moved to the PE department as a full time teacher in 2020. Coach Owen moved into the JV basketball head coach position in the 2021-22 season, and earned the Booster Club's JV Coach of the Year at the 2023 Hawkspy Awards. She began assisting the volleyball program in 2022-23. She and her husband, Brett, have two young boys at Charlotte Latin.
