2024 - 2025 Season Summary
By Coach Pence
The MS Navy Girls’ basketball team was both a very talented and selfless team that provided a lot of excitement finishing the season with a remarkable 12-3 record. The girls worked hard in practice learning multiple offenses and defenses used at the varsity level. Our season highlight was the game at Covenant Day when we were down 6-15 at halftime and coming back to ultimately win the game 34-27 through sheer determination and teamwork. The girls never gave up! Our guards (Claire Martin, Maddie Lay, Pippen Manwaring, Madison Glasscock, Samantha Holder, Nola Hitzemann, Lila Graham, and Kylie Wilson) played tenacious defense frustrating other teams generating much of our scoring. Our forwards (Sara Hutchinson, Lucy Hoke, Brooke Fletcher, Alex Krasnigor and Caroline Burleson) improved their rebounding throughout the season and they dominated the boards the last half of the year. Coach Rogers, Coach Dauska and I feel fortunate to have coached this great group of girls. The future is bright for Hawks basketball!

2023 - 2024 Season Summary
By Coach Giavonni Mack
The 8th grade girls’ basketball team showed remarkable determination and unity throughout their season, finishing with a record of 8-7. The Hawks consistently displayed a strong work ethic, practicing tirelessly to improve their skills and teamwork. Their perseverance in the face of adversity not only strengthened their abilities on the court but also fostered a sense of resilience within the team.
The girls' tenacity became a defining characteristic of their season, garnering admiration from coaches, parents, and their peers. They learned that success is not always measured by wins alone but by the ability to overcome challenges and grow from them. I’m incredibly proud of every team member for being open to learn and for developing skills on and off the court that will stay with them long after the season ends.

2022 - 2023 Season Summary
By Coach Tammi Rogers
The 8th grade girls' basketball team consisted of a group of fun, hard-working athletes. All of the girls were excellent teammates and celebrated one another's successes. The girls competed hard in our games and never gave up, regardless of the score.  We all enjoyed practicing together and talking about things well beyond basketball. Coach Oates, Coach Dauska, and I feel very fortunate to have coached such a special group of girls.  These girls will be successful in all of their future endeavors.

2021 - 2022 Season Summary
By Coach Tammi Rogers
The 8th grade girls' basketball team is a group of hard-working, dedicated and caring young ladies. They ended their season with an impressive record of 9-2. The girls were so competitive, pushing each other during every practice to improve their skills. Our guards: Charlotte Tune, Holden Gore, Lindsey Boone, Georgia Hume, Hayden Proffitt, Abbie Burns, Marion DuBose, Brooke Proffitt, and Drue Amin would play such pressure defense that often our opponents went for long stretches without being able to score. Our forwards: Louise Wyche, Jane McAuley, Morgan McLaughlin, Mollie Snyder and Riley Hill dominated the boards, pulling down defensive rebounds and getting many put-backs on offense. All of the girls were excellent teammates and celebrated one another's successes. We all enjoyed our post-game chat where the girls would gather in the locker room and share their thoughts and compliment their teammates. Coach Oates and I feel very fortunate to have been able to coach such a special group of girls. The future of Hawks basketball is bright!!

2020 - 2021 Season Summary
By Coach David Gatewood
The 8th grade girls followed their successful 7th grade year with another winning season as 8th graders. This group had high expectations for themselves, but in many ways, this season was more successful given the nature of the challenges that they faced. With a limited practice schedule due to Latin's vigilant and necessary Covid protocols, the girls showed that they had retained what they had learned from the previous year. They also adapted well to a new system and, at times, overwhelmed opponents with it. Throughout it all, this group stayed positive and energetic, and supported each other along the way. They are, without question, an important part of Latin's bright girls' basketball future.
