Charlotte Latin Middle School Football

The Middle School Football team is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students and competes with other schools in the Greater Charlotte Middle School Athletic Association (GCMSAA). The Hawks are led by seasoned coaches who teach the fundamentals of football, both in strategy and in skills, to prepare the middle school student-athletes for continuation at the junior varsity and varsity levels.

Charlotte Latin School’s code is “Honor Above All.” We believe that athletics provides the opportunity for many teachable moments of life’s lessons. In athletics, honoring yourself, your team, your opponent, officials and the game you play are qualities we encourage in our student-athletes every day.

2024 Season Summary
By Coach Cooke
Our Middle School Hawks had an extremely successful season in 2024. With 47 total players including 27 8th graders, our Middle School team improved from an 0-6 record in 2023 to a 5-3 finish in 2024 including wins over rivals Providence Day and Country Day. Our offense was led by some very talented skill players in 8th graders Karim McGregor, Elijah Scott, Emory Chaney, William Alt and Maddox Riley. The offensive line was probably the best we’ve had in recent memories anchored by 8th graders Henry Siegel, John Gray Norris, Sam Morgan and Mills Cutter. Defensively, we were stout, holding opponents to an average of 14 points a game including an average of 6.8 in our five wins. Our defense was led by Gardner Kelly at Safety and Teddy Stubbs at LB. With twenty players returning, the Hawks will look to several 7th grade starters from this year to lead next year’s squad including DB/WR Walker Sammons, QB Pierce Giles, OL/DL Cash Morgan, and OL/DL Grey Heinzerling. The future looks bright with these young Hawks.

2023 Season Summary
There was a ton of growth from our Middle School Football team this Fall. Numbers within our Middle School football program were the highest they've been in the last 5 years with 48 total players between 7th and 8th grade. Trey Paige was a huge highlight with several kick returns for a touchdown this season.  Paige and Baker Humphrey were outstanding in the run game all season long. The offensive line was anchored by 8th graders Holland Loeffler, Robert Comly, Penn Siegel and Bill Wyche. Several players contributed at wide receiver including Barrett Hicks, Richard Linch, Kolton Arnold, McNair Beaver and Gus Fotchmann with Hicks and Fotchmann finding the end zone later in the season. Defense was a strong point of our team most of the year with huge contributions from linebackers Robert Comly and McNair Beaver and some huge sacks by Holland Loeffler and Penn Siegel. Several 7th graders stepped in and got valuable experience with QB/CB William Alt, OL/DL Sam Morgan and RB/DB Gardner Kelly. With thirty 7th graders on this year's roster there are high expectations heading into the 2024 season.

2022 Season Summary
The Middle School football team finished with a 1-4 record after a big 22-14 win to open the season at Country Day. The team had major contributions from 8th graders Alex Dauska, Owen Bex, Nick Smith, Cooper Holland, Ben Morgan and Zach Krasnigor, both offensively and defensively. Bryce LaPoint and Cole Bradley really stepped up on the offensive and defensive lines as well.  Next year’s team will look upon several 7th grade leaders that got a lot of playing experience in 2022, like Trey Paige, Edward Fisher, Baker Humphrey, Kemp Chapman, Peyton Laughton, Holland Loeffler, McNair Beaver and Robert Comly. These Hawks learned a lot and will build on their skills and knowledge for next year. Go Hawks!

2021 Season Summary
The Middle School football team finished the season with a record of 2-4. The season's highlights were two resounding wins against Country Day by a combined score of 70-0. The team was very competitive in every game and showed great improvement over the course of the season. The team was led by 8th graders Banks Cutter, Dallas Chapman, and Wills Hutchinson, but also got contributions from a very talented 7th grade group. The 7th graders dominated every 5th quarter during the year and defeated both Cuthbertson and Hickory Grove in scrimmages.

2020 Season Summary
From Coach Smith: "7th grade football completed their season with a record of 0-4, playing Charlotte Christian and Country Day twice each. However, the record does not reflect the true experience of this team. Beginning the season with 20 of the 23 players never having played organized, tackle football meant a steep learning curve, even under normal circumstances. Despite competing against older, more experienced players in every game, this group of young men always played with enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship. Many of these players will serve as a foundation for future Latin football success."
