Season officially begins February 9
2025 Season Summary
By Coach Moorman
The 2025 Track & Field season has come to a close and it was one to remember. We had a record number of athletes join the team this year (130), bringing energy, excitement, and a strong team spirit to every practice and meet. Throughout the season, our athletes set countless personal records (PRs), showcasing their growth, determination, and commitment. One of the standout highlights was the breaking of a 20-year-old school record, by junior Na'il Diggs, Jr., who jumped 22' 11" in the long jump. Additionally, we had 6 athletes named First and Second Team All-Conference after the CISAA T&F Championships, a testament to the talent and hard work this team brought to the track.
1st Team All-Conference
Hunter Loeffler - CISAA Boys Pole Vault Champion
2nd Team All-Conference:
Na'il Diggs, Jr. - Boys 100m Runner Up
Trey Paige, Na'il Diggs, Jr., Joe McGirt, Avery Simmons - Boys 4x100m Runners-Up
David Vaughn - Boys High Jump Runner Up
Despite having many young and first-time athletes, the entire team rose to the challenge. Their dedication, resilience, and willingness to give it their all made a lasting impact and laid a strong foundation for the future. We're proud of every runner, jumper, and thrower who represented our school this season. The future is bright for this team, and we can't wait to see what's next.
2024 Season Summary
By Coach Moorman
Varsity Track and Field had a lot of growth this season, with nearly 30 more student-athletes on the roster than last season. A number of athletes tried track and field for the first time and absolutely excelled, like senior Serena Hu, who qualified for the state championship in 3 out her 4 events. Many were still trying to find their footing as the season progressed, but eventually, everyone found their niche. We had some amazing performances by our senior athletes, like Jackson DiRoma (2nd Team All-Conference in the 800m and 1600m and 2nd Team All-State in the 800m) and Moné Cary (placed 4th in Discus at both Conference and States). Juniors Hunter Loeffler (2nd Team All-Conference in Pole Vault) and Maggie Klingman (3rd place at States in High Jump) really stepped up to the plate as well. Our quote for the season was, "To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift" by Steve Prefontaine. We emphasized that everyone's measurement of success may look different, and that's okay, but in everyone's journey to "success" give it your all and have no regrets. We saw this demonstrated numerous times throughout the season and it was incredible to witness.
2023 Season Summary
The track team had a surplus of new athletes this season. The returning Hawks did an amazing job mentoring, supporting and leading the newer/younger athletes. Every single athlete, who stayed the course and finished the season, improved on their individual marks. In additional to the numerous personal records (PRs) that were set, three school records were broken this season:
- Girls Pole Vault - Morgan Smith (10’8”)
- Girls 3200m - Helen Hurden (10:59.42)
- Boys 4x800m - Jackson DiRoma, Webb Kiser, Edward Guggenheimer and Will Vaughn (8:09.97)
Two of the main themes/mottos for this season were to be intentional with every drill, practice and competition because intentionality leads to results, and to get better every day, no matter how big or small the feat. The fact that
every athlete improved over the season is a testament of their dedication to those mottos. Read about their achievements at the CISAA Championship
here and the NCISAA Championship

2022 Season Summary
It was a busy season for the Charlotte Latin track and field athletes! Our seniors were phenomenal as leaders and team captains. Senior captain Madeleine Pease bested her school record in the high jump multiple times throughout the season, achieving a new mark of 5'3", and winning both the
CISAA Championship and the
NCISAA Championship. In addition, Mada helped the girls 4x400m relay break the school record by 5 seconds. Mary Schleusner, Nina Lavelle (senior captain) and Maggie Klingman were the other participants in the record-breaking 4x400. Junior captain Will Vaughn made history by participating in his first and the school's first-ever decathlon event placing first at the Raven's Relays. The 4x100 relay team led by senior Daniel Haughton, senior and team captain Davis Thompson, Sam Haines and Rykin Maxwell moved up to the #3 all-time in this event. Another team captain and a senior, Harrison Klingman, is leaving his mark by moving up to the #3 spot on Latin's all-time performance lists in 1600m and 3200m. Senior captain Nina Lavelle made school history with top-three Latin all-time performances in 100m and 200m. Junior Morgan Smith, a newcomer to the pole vault, tied the second-best mark in school history and finished third at the NCISAA Championship. Senior Morgan Stradford moved to 2nd place in Latin school history for the triple jump and remains in 2nd place for the long jump from her achievement during the 2021 season. Jackson Scott also moved up to third place on the Latin all-time list in the triple jump. At the CISAA championships, hosted by Latin, both boys and girls teams finished 3rd overall behind PDS and CDS. At the NCISAA championships, Hawks finished 4th in the girls and 5th in the boy's divisions, respectively.
2021 Season Summary
Latin track and field athletes had a great season despite unusual circumstances. The challenging year did not deter the hawks from coming together as a team and accomplishing individual and team goals. The Hawks ended the season in 5th place for boys and girls in our CISAA rankings and 6th for boys and 8th for the girls in the NCISAA State Championship. Those placements do not reflect the our successes. Almost everyone recorded a season or lifetime best performance in each event. Latin athletes moved up in the all-time CLS performance list this year. We saw kids move up in the top 10 list in 24 different events just this season. Most of these athletes are young and still have many opportunities to improve. The coaching staff is excited that we have such great student-athletes who are passionate about track and field. We only graduate three seniors from over 30 state qualifiers. We have a lot of young athletes who are ready to step up. We are grateful for such a great group of seniors who have inspired our young athletes and we are more excited about our rising seniors who have already demonstrated great leadership abilities. The future is bright for the Hawks. I am looking forward to next year!
2020 Season Summary
The spring athletic season came to an abrupt end on Thursday, March 12, 2020, when the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association announced that all athletics events were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The impact of that decision on our spring student-athletes was top of mind for all involved and the athletic department, coaches, booster club, and parents worked together to keep our Hawks engaged and connected. Our Latin athletes ended their seasons in an unprecedented and unexpected way, but with a renewed appreciation for their sport, their teammates, and the many benefits of participating in Charlotte Latin Athletics.
