Seven Hawks added to an impressive group of 22 collegiate signees

Charlotte Latin School celebrated the collegiate athletic commitments of seven student-athletes on April 24, 2025. Combined with six student-athletes recognized in November, and nine Hawks honored in February, the CLS Class of 2025 has 22 athletes moving on to the collegiate level. That's an impressive 15% of all senior student-athletes, and 20% of the entire senior class. Family, friends, coaches, teachers, and other supporters packed the Black Box to honor their accomplishments. Read on to find out more about each of our April honorees and the journey that led them to their respective colleges.

Maya Belton Maya Belton - College of Charleston
Dance

She's been dancing since she began toddling and made it official when she started competing as a nine-year-old. Maya has always loved moving to music, being able to express herself, and performing on a stage. A two-year All-Conference honoree, Maya is powerful and confident, on and off the dance floor, fearlessly trying new things and encouraging others to do the same. Currently competing for the first time with the varsity track and field team, Maya quickly made an impact in the sprint squad. Her dedication, initiative, leadership, and positivity make her an asset to her team and her community.

While Maya hoped to continue dancing at the next level, she put her academic goals first and feels fortunate to have found a school that fulfills both dreams. Her admission to the honors college combined with merit scholarships and her acceptance on the dance team means that Maya will be studying biology on the pre-med track while competing as a Cougarette for the College of Charleston next year.

Congratulations Maya!

Zoe Bradley Zoe Bradley - Tulane University
Cheerleading

Zoe started out in gymnastics but only found enjoyment in the floor exercise. She thought cheer would be a way to focus on the one aspect of gymnastics she liked the most, so she made the switch in sixth grade. Although she discovered that cheering is a lot more than just tumbling, she loved being part of a big team and found the bonding that occurs with your stunt group builds incredible friendships. On the Latin cheer squad, Zoe's athleticism and tumbling skills are certainly strengths, but it's her versatility and adaptability that have defined her contributions to the team. She has been a reliable force and dependable team member.

While touring schools and considering options for next year, one campus made a big impression on Zoe. It is integrated into New Orleans, one of the most unique cities in the country, with a distinct energy and sense of community. Zoe says every student she encountered during her visit said they couldn't imagine themselves at any other school. Having the opportunity to continue to cheer in a Division I athletic program was just the icing on the cake. Zoe will be supporting the Green Wave while studying neuroscience in the Honors College at Tulane University.

Congratulations Zoe!

Titus Ivory Titus Ivory - Wingate University
Football

He was exposed to the sport of football by his dad, but Titus credits former Panthers Josh Norman and Latin's own Kurt Coleman for inspiring him to play. He watched them, idolized them, and tried to emulate them. Through the early years of flag football in elementary school to his first time playing tackle in middle school and all the way through his senior season as a Hawk, Titus says he just enjoyed playing with his teammates and having fun. At Latin, he made a huge impact. Titus has a knack for anticipating throws and breaking up passes that often made opposing offenses one-dimensional and earned him First Team All-Conference honors. His biggest influence, though, has been his connection to younger Hawks. Titus coached in our Talons flag football league for Lower School kids and mentored the players on the Middle School team, serving as a great example of leadership and giving back.

When Titus was considering his college options, he wanted to find a school that offers a strong curriculum in business and communications, would allow him to continue to grow as an athlete and work toward his goals, while remaining close to home and his family. He made a connection with the coaching staff and feels he has found his new home just 30 minutes outside of Charlotte, where he will continue to compete as a Bulldog at Wingate University.

Congratulations Titus!

James Jones James Jones - DePauw University
Men's Basketball

His basketball journey began at just five years old, and he quickly discovered how much fun it was to compete with friends. James worked hard to develop his skills and he grew into a leader during his time with the Hawks. He has the ability to get the ball to the rim and finish over opponents. One of the most memorable CLS sports moments of this year was a battle with the Bucs on the road. Trailing by one with only six seconds remaining, Alex Dauska drove to the rim then passed the ball to James in the corner. Instead of taking a contested jump shot, James put the ball on the floor, attacked the rim, then pulled up and sent a 12-foot floater straight into the basket to clinch the one-point victory.

He was consistent all season, averaging 11 points per game and earning All-Conference 2nd Team recognition. When it came time to look at options for life after Latin, James visited his parents' alma mater and found it had a friendly atmosphere he was drawn to. The basketball staff and team were welcoming, and he believes the school's business analytics program will prepare him well for the future.  James will be heading to Greencastle, Indiana next year to study business and compete as a Tiger for DePauw University.

Congratulations James!

Cordelia Kim Cordelia Kim - Rutgers University
Dance

Cordelia is an experienced dancer who began competing as a five-year-old. She thrives in the challenge presented by making technical moves look effortless, and is one of those rare dancers who has mastered the mix of artistry and athleticism. A three-year All-Conference honoree and the 2024 Conference Dancer of the year, Cordelia leads by example, always training hard and pushing herself, which inspires those around her to match her energy. She says there is no better feeling than performing on stage, in the gym, or on the football field.

In considering her options for college, Cordelia had specific criteria. She wanted to go to a school in the northeast with a top-ten dance program where she would be challenged but supported academically. Fortunately, she found all of that and more, including the exciting spirit of a Big 10 sports program, a campus within an hour of Manhattan, an emphasis on balance between athletics and academics, and an immediate bond with her future teammates and coaches. Cordelia plans to study chemistry as part of the Honors College at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Congratulations Cordelia!

Bryce Spangler Bryce Spangler - Denison University
Men's Swimming

His love of swimming was established at the age of eight when he joined a summer league team and deepened when he began competing with SwimMAC three years later. Bryce says he enjoys the hard work and dedication that are required to push yourself to your limits in order to get better. In addition to the satisfaction of setting and achieving goals, Bryce loves all of the friendships he has found through swimming. His contributions as a Hawk are many, including an impressive senior season that culminated in a conference title and state runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke to  earn him All-Observer recognition, key contributions on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, which earned him All-American honors, and finishing fifth in the state in the 100 butterfly. He has been a mainstay on relays and can always be counted on to give 100 percent for his teammates, whether he's competing or cheering them on from the deck. His leadership, loyalty, humility, and kindness will be missed.

Bryce explored many different options during the recruiting process but was ultimately drawn to a school that seemed to have a great balance between academics and athletics, with a close-knit team built on depth and chemistry. He plans to study business and communications while competing with this year's NCAA Division III Men's National Champions at Denison University.

Congratulations Bryce!

Logan Yee Logan Yee - Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Diving

Initially a gymnast, Logan decided to give diving a try when she was a freshman in high school. She saw the similarities in the sports and thought her skills might translate well. It turns out she was right. Her club diving coach says Logan's gymnastics background gave her a polish to her quality of movement that few divers possess, which accelerated her learning curve. Logan admits that smacking into the water while learning new skills is a painful process, but she loves the literal leap of faith required to overcome that fear. She embraces the need for resilience and says it's exhilarating to soar through the air and then pierce the water at high speed.

Academically, Logan had a dream to follow in her mother's footsteps and pursue an elite STEM education at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology. She was pleased to discover that it also offers a collaborative school culture that emphasizes a healthy balance between academics, athletics, and other extracurricular activities. The dive team seems to be a perfect fit with coaches who set high expectations but understand and support the context of being a student-athlete in such a rigorous academic setting. Logan is realizing her dream with a bonus of continuing to compete in a sport she has grown to love as a diver at MIT.

Congratulations Logan!
