Varsity Wrestlers Repeat as NCISAA State Champs

The Mat Hawks defended the NCISAA Wrestling title on Friday, February 16, 2024 earning the program its 25th championship. Led by three individual division champions, all fourteen wrestlers in Charlotte Latin's lineup scored points for the team. Weight class winners included senior Austin Flowers (175), sophomore Liam McConaughy (106), and freshman Davis Jones (113). Sophomore Spear Gorelick (132) and senior Gabe Carpenter (285) both finished second, while senior Ethan Randall and junior Will Edwards placed third.

While the wrestlers were battling it out with 17 teams from across the state at Charlotte Country Day School, Assistant Coach John Bryant had other business to attend to. He and his wife, Kelli, welcomed a baby boy into the world at 5:00 pm, just as the championship round was set to begin. Congratulations Coach!

Friday's victory caps off a hugely successful season including a 29-1 dual meet record, a CISAA Conference Title, the NCISAA State Title, a Regional Coach of the Year Award for Head Coach David Paige, and a new baby for the Bryants. Congratulations to all in the Mat Hawks family!
