Coach McDowell is a Charlotte Latin alumnus and former standout athlete who earned three All-State honors in track and field and set two school records in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays during his time as a Latin varsity runner. He returned to his alma mater to assist with the varsity track & field team in 2025, added middle school cross country to his assisting role in the fall of 2026, and became the head of the middle school track team in the spring of 2026. He also has experience from previous coaching roles in youth tennis and recreational basketball. Coach McDowell holds a degree from Texas Christian University and works as a Digital Marketing Associate at PMA Nonprofit Leadership Consulting.
