2024 Season Summary
By Coach Atwell
The 2024 Fall Cheerleading season was incredibly exciting for these spirited Charlotte Latin Hawks! With
22 cheerleaders (the largest Fall squad in recent history) the team soared to new heights, cheering our
Hawks to an impressive 8-0 start. For the first time ever, these dedicated athletes cheered at every
home and away game, including memorable road trips to Ravenscroft, Mitchell, and Christ School.
Another highlight was storming the field with classmates after a last second field goal to win against
Charlotte Country Day.
This team made significant strides in other areas. They dedicated countless hours to strength training,
improving their physical fitness and overall performance. Their elite stunting skills were on full display
throughout the season, particularly in their performance at the Homecoming Pep Rally. They also
participated in school-wide events including the Touchdown Tailgate and Admissions Open House. The
Junior Hawks Night was a huge success, welcoming nearly 40 Lower School girls to the track to cheer
and stunt, fostering a love for the sport amongst our youngest students.
A special shoutout to our 10 incredible senior leaders who left an indelible mark on the program. They
set high expectations for the season and their exceptional leadership, work ethic, and positive attitude
were instrumental in the team's success. Their insistence on continuing traditions such as daily shout-
outs, themed practices, pre-game team meals, senior celebrations and running the flags made all the
difference in team cohesion this season.
As we reflect on this amazing season, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our supportive parents and
passionate fans. Their unwavering belief in our team fueled our success. We look forward to building on
this momentum and reaching even greater heights in the Winter season.
2023 Season Summary
The Varsity Cheerleaders had an outstanding season supporting the gridiron Hawks and other fellow athletes in a variety of fall sports! A successful UCA home camp where several athletes were named “All-Americans” kicked off summer practices. Bi-weekly sessions in the Strength Center and weekly trips to Charlotte Allstar Gym throughout the fall helped to build confidence and precision in tumbling sequences, group stunts and elite pyramids. These highly energetic athletes worked hard to perfect their technique and elevated their performances as a season continued. Team members really enjoyed participating in the fall media day and the impromptu Touchdown Tailgate pep rally, parading through the Lower School with the Drumline and Dance Team, hitting a challenging routine at the all-school HOCO pep rally, and cheering with over 30 Junior Hawk cheerleaders on the track for the last home game. The season wrapped up with four CLS cheerleaders selected for the CISAA All-Conference Team.
GO HAWKS!
2022 Season Summary
The fall varsity squad was comprised of 13 veteran cheerleaders and three new faces. With this extensive experience and leadership, the team was able to move quickly into advanced group stunts, pyramids and tumbling sequences. The cheerleaders were excited to fire up the Hawk fans under the “Friday Night Football Lights” and enthusiastically supported fellow athletes in a variety of fall sports. The team enjoyed painting faces for Touchdown Tailgate, welcoming 30 Junior Hawk cheerleaders to the track for the Homecoming game, and “flying” all six seniors on Senior Night. We were particularly proud of our performance at the first all-school pep rally in 3 years! GO HAWKS!
2021 Season Summary
The Varsity Cheerleaders were excited to welcome 11 new faces to the 2021 fall team! Although many of these athletes were new to the sport, they worked hard to quickly learn choreography and stunt technique. Our veterans exhibited strong leadership and helped Hawk cheer soar to new heights in stunts, tumbling and on the sidelines! The team came ready to fire up the crowd every Friday night, supporting the gridiron Hawks to a winning record, and also enthusiastically supported fellow athletes in many other fall varsity sports.
2020 Season Summary
The varsity fall cheer squad expanded its reach this year and brought much-needed enthusiasm and support to the field hockey and boys' soccer teams, in addition to cheering at football games. At the beginning of the season, spectators were not permitted and the games were eerily quiet. The cheerleaders didn't have a crowd to work with, but they recognized the importance of filling the stadium with their voices to encourage their fellow Hawks. As the season progressed and limited fans were able to attend, the cheerleaders shined in front of the small crowds. The squad had great leadership from thirteen seniors this year, who were celebrated in Patten Stadium during our only home football game of the year on October 23rd. They capped off the fall season with a performance at the Prism Concert featuring the CLS band, orchestra, and choral programs.
