2025 Season Summary

The softball team wrapped up an incredible season with an impressive 16-4 regular season record and a runner-up finish in the state championship, capping off one of the program’s most successful years in recent memory. From the very first practice, this group committed to working together and pushing one another to reach their full potential, and that dedication showed in every inning they played. A highlight of the season was the overnight trip to Raleigh, where the team went a perfect 3-0, showing their resilience, focus, and team chemistry on and off the field. Throughout the regular season, they notched hard-fought wins over top programs like Cannon, Charlotte Christian, and Providence Day—a feat that hadn’t been achieved in years. This group’s selflessness, determination, and belief in each other set the tone for a remarkable season and left a lasting legacy for future teams to follow.

2024 Season Summary

This year, the emphasis for Varsity Softball was on setting and reaching individual and team goals. While the ultimate team goal of winning the conference was not realized this season, many individual and team goals were met and surpassed. We ended the season with our highest state ranking in recent years (153), which is a testament to how hard the girls worked and the progress we’ve made as a program.

2023 Season Summary
This season, our team’s emphasis was on improving each day, winning each inning, and putting the ball in play and forcing our opponents to make the play to get us out. The girls focused on making contact and less on getting a hit every at bat. This goal ended up reducing our number of strikeouts per game significantly, which really helped towards the end of the season when we were pushing to the playoffs. In 2022, our team finished with a state ranking of 265. This season, we ended with a state ranking of 177. It was our first quarterfinal appearance since I began coaching at Latin. I am so proud of all this team has accomplished and I am excited about what the future holds. 

2022 Season Summary
Many goals were reached this season: earning the program's first win in several years, our pitchers leading the league in regular season strikeouts and earning a playoff bid since 2015, earning a home playoff game and winning a playoff game. We also had a First Team All-Conference player (Talia Hawa). I am very pleased with the growth of the entire program this season. We have been working to build a cohesive middle school through varsity program that emphasizes skills, accountability and community. We are starting to see the shift in culture within the softball program and the future is bright. We are so thankful for the support of the softball families and players.

2021 Season Summary
This season included many firsts for our team- from first at-bats (ever, for some!) to first runs scored in a varsity uniform. While the record did not reflect the growth that took place over the course of the season, every player improved their skills. The girls grew together as a team unit and I am looking forward to seeing their continued growth next season.

2020 Season Summary
The spring athletic season came to an abrupt end on Thursday, March 12, 2020, when the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association announced that all athletics events were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The impact of that decision on our spring student-athletes was top of mind for all involved and the athletic department, coaches, booster club, and parents worked together to keep our Hawks engaged and connected. Our Latin athletes ended their seasons in an unprecedented and unexpected way, but with a renewed appreciation for their sport, their teammates, and the many benefits of participating in Charlotte Latin Athletics.
