2024 - 2025 Season Summary
By Coach Atwell
This season, the Winter Varsity Cheer team continued to grow in strength, skill and spirit. We welcomed two rookies to the team of 24, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm. Our 11 incredible seniors, with a combined 63 seasons of cheer experience, led the way with heart and dedication. Throughout the season, the cheerleaders pushed themselves to meet ambitious goals for stunting,
successfully performing new pyramids, cheers, tumbling passes and dances at nearly every game. These dedicated Hawks proudly cheered at every regular-season home game for both the Varsity Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball teams, bringing energy and school pride to the court - win or lose. Beyond basketball, the team collaborated with the Varsity Wrestlers for an exciting Upper School Pep Rally in December, and showed their support for the Varsity Swimmers at their final home meet of the year. Some of the season’s highlights included performing the iconic Thunderstruck dance, cramming into the Belk gym with hundreds of fellow classmates on Throwback Night, honoring our invited teachers at Faculty Appreciation Night, and celebrating our seniors with a heartfelt Senior Night and subsequent mat signoff. These girls had the opportunity to share their love for cheer with younger students, stunting with Lower Schoolers on Spirit Night. Lastly, no one will forget the PD game during which it dumped snow and made for a memorable night! This season was one for the books, filled with teamwork, growth, and unforgettable memories!
2022 - 2023 Season Summary
The 2022-23 Varsity Cheer squad added several new faces to the team for the winter, including two South African exchange students. They kicked off the season at a combined practice with the newly formed Middle School cheer squad - a fun bonding experience! The varsity squad didn't miss a beat and jumped right into basketball season with a growing repertoire of stunts, pyramids and new choreography. The team enthusiastically cheered at all home varsity girls and boys basketball games - including some nail biters that were won on last second shots! In preparation for the Winter Sports Showcase, the cheerleaders welcomed Coach Paige and several varsity wrestlers to practice for demonstrations on wrestling technique and scoring. It helped them better support the team during their match! Other highlights included the Thunderstruck routine for the Upper School Pep Rally, signing autographs for the youngest Hawks at a packed Lower School Spirit Night, and weekly workouts at Charlotte Allstar Cheer gym where they continued to focus on elite stunts and tumbling. GO HAWKS!
