Consistency and depth led the varsity boys' golf team to a dominant, 16-stroke victory and a third consecutive NCISAA State Championship on Monday, May 12, 2025. Junior
Henry Holland led the charge with an 8-under par performance that earned him Medalist for the tournament. Junior
Griffin Cheatwood followed close behind, with a 4-under-par effort to finish in third place. Charlotte Latin had six players representing the school in team competition, and an additional five competing as individuals. The Hawks were represented in team competition by juniors Holland, Cheatwood,
Aston Lee,
Til Wagner, and
Jack Hollmeyer, along with sophomore
Graham Wagner. Their top four scores are combined for the team total. Individual competitors are eligible to win medalist honors, but their scores cannot be used to calculate the team's total. The Hawks' individual entries included senior
Asher Weiers, junior
Wills Hutchinson, sophomore
Will Moody, and freshmen
McNair Beaver, and
Charlie Leichtweis.
Due to storms in the forecast, the two-day tournament was condensed to one, long 36-hole day played in varying degrees of rain at Greensboro National Golf Club. At the conclusion of the first round, the Hawks had a four-shot lead over Forsyth Country Day in second. After a brief lunch break, the golfers hit the course again for round two, and the Hawks pulled away. Holland matched his first-round 68 to extend his lead and seal the individual victory. It was the lowest 18-hole score in the field, matched only by Charlotte Christian's Alexander Paschall (68, 73) and our own
Aston Lee (78, 68).
The team title is the third in a row for the boys' golf team, and the fifth overall for the program.
