Angel Trimble has been named the new Head Coach of the Charlotte Latin Swimming program. She is a familiar name to Latin aquatics fans: she has been Varsity Swimming Assistant Coach since 2017, and also serves capably as Charlotte Latin School's Assistant Athletics Director and Sports Information Director.
Â
"Latin swimming is incredibly strong," Trimble noted. In the 2023–24 season, the Varsity Boys' Swimming team won its fifth consecutive NCISAA Division I title, the 20th in the program's history; the Varsity Girls' Swimming team finished third in the state (and has amassed ten state championships over the years).
Â
"We graduated a lot of seniors," Trimble said, "but we have a big group of incoming freshmen, many of whom I've gotten to know a bit through their years with the Middle School team, and I'm excited to see the energy they'll bring to the varsity group. They'll be led by a strong core of seniors who have been committed to Latin swimming since seventh grade and have grown into incredible leaders and role models for their younger teammates. It's going to be a fun year!"
Â
Trimble began her competitive swimming career at the age of five, when she joined a summer league "because my older sister made it look fun." She taught swim lessons as a young teen and spent summers training, lifeguarding, and coaching through her college years. Trimble grew up in Charlottesville, VA, and attended Virginia Tech, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, finishing second in her class. She swam for Virginia Tech for four years and served as captain for two seasons; her senior year, she won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships and received the team's Outstanding Senior Award.
Â
"The achievements and accolades are great, but through four years of swimming for my high school and four years of swimming for the Hokies, the relationships I made are what I remember most," Trimble said. "That's the experience I want to foster for everyone who swims for the Hawks."
Â
After graduating, she moved to Charlotte with her husband Collins, whom she met on the Virginia Tech swim team, initially working for WBTV as an associate producer of the morning news before establishing her own marketing company and eventually coming to Charlotte Latin in 2016.
Â
Athletic Director David Gatoux commented, "We are so fortunate and appreciative to have
Angel Trimble assume the leadership helm and continue in our swim program's lineage of great coaches. Her past coaching experience and deep care for our school will serve as a seamless link between the successful past and an exciting future for Charlotte Latin Swimming."
Â
Preseason strength training sessions for Charlotte Latin Swimming start in September; the season officially begins on October 28.
