The Varsity Wrestling team won the NCISAA Championship in dominant fashion on February 17, 2023, out-scoring second-place Providence Day by nearly 100 points. It's the tenth state title for the wrestling team in the last eleven years, and the twenty-fourth overall for the program. Although the tournament took place in Raleigh at Ravenscroft School, the Hawks had great support from a crowd of family, friends and supporters.
Junior
Ethan Randall won the 122-pound weight class to claim the lone individual title for the Hawks, but the team win was earned by depth. With points scored in nearly every match, the Hawks worked their way through bracket competition to place five athletes in the championship finals. In addition to Randall's championship performance, senior
James Van Nort, junior
Gabe Carpenter, and freshmen
Spear Gorelick and
Liam McConaughy all competed in the final round of their respective weight classes.
The future looks bright for the program, with ten of the 14 starters returning next year. Congratulations to the entire team, coaching staff, and Mat Hawk family on a very successful season!
