Hawks Win 12th Straight CISAA Boys Swimming Title; Girls Claim 2nd

The varsity boys' swimming team won its twelfth consecutive CISAA title and the girls' team claimed second place on February 2nd at the conference championship. In addition to the team successes, the swimmers achieved 41 personal best times, two new CISAA championship meet records, two new Latin school records, and seven new state-qualifying times. Four swimmers attained their first-ever NCISAA Div I swimming cuts, extending their season to compete in next week's state championship. Three Hawks earned 1st Team All-Conference status by winning their individual events, and three others earned 1st Team All-Conference for their contributions to winning relays. Notable swims from Latin athletes include two double-event winners:
  • Norvy Clontz (So) - 1st 200 freestyle, 1st 500 freestyle, 1st 200 medley relay (breaststroke), 1st 400 free relay (4th swimmer)
  • Ivy Monk (Jr / Carolina commit) - 1st 200 individual medley, 1st 100 breaststroke, 3rd 200 medley relay (breaststroke), 2nd 400 free relay (4th swimmer)

  • Karlin Smith (Fr) - 2nd 500 freestyle, 4th 200 freestyle; also swam backstroke on the B 200 medley relay (7th), and the lead-off leg on the B 400 free relay (3rd)
  • Zachary Spicer (Jr) - 2nd 100 backstroke, 4th 100 freestyle, 1st 200 medley relay (backstroke), 1st 400 free relay (2nd swimmer)
New CISAA records: New LATIN records:
  • Norvy Clontz went 4:28.67 to displace his own record of 4:32.07 set at the 2022 NCISAA Championship
  • The boys' 200 medley relay also broke the Latin school record of 1:35.31 set in 2021 by Aidan Hill '24, Stephen Kim '21, Andy Dorsel '21, and Levani Tutovani '22

The previous week, the Middle School boys' and girls' swimming teams finished 2nd and 4th, respectively, at the GCMSAA Championship. Congratulations to Thomas Greathouse '27 and David Sammons '28, who each won two individual events and set new GCMSAA records in the process:
  • Thomas Greathouse (8th) - 1st 100 individual medley (new GCMSAA record of 56.87), 1st 50 butterfly (new GCMSAA record of 24.88)
  • David Sammons (7th) - 1st 200 freestyle (new GCMSAA record of 1:49.98), 1st 50 backstroke (new GCMSAA record of 26.37)
