The Varsity Girls' Swimming team placed third at the NCISAA Division I Swimming Championship on February 13, 2023, contributing 40 points to the
Wells Fargo Cup and bringing home state, school, and personal records. The Hawks were led by the quartet of
Charley Floyd,
Ivy Monk,
Lila Connor, and
Dorothy Patterson, who kicked off the finals session with a first-place finish and a new Latin School record in the 200 medley relay. The same foursome closed out the meet with another winning effort in the 4x100 freestyle relay that established a new NCISAA meet record, a new Latin School record, and earned All-American consideration. Relay victories are worth 40 points each.
Individually,
Lila Connor won the 100 yard freestyle and placed second in the 200 freestyle to contribute an additional 37 points.
Ivy Monk finished second in the 200 individual medley, with an All-American consideration time of 2:02.97. She also placed second in the 100 breaststroke, earning 34 points for the Hawks.
Charley Floyd earned a third-place podium spot in the 100 backstroke and finished sixth in the 100 butterfly, accumulating 29 points, and
Dorothy Patterson added a seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle and a ninth place finish in the 100 freestyle to add 19 points to the team tally.
The Hawks were represented by twenty girls who attained NCISAA qualifying times at Latin meets throughout the season. In addition to the records mentioned above, the girls' team achieved twenty-two lifetime personal bests. The most dramatic improvement came from Kayva Sagunarthy, who dropped an astonishing ten seconds off of her 200 individual medley time. Throughout the meet, the team showed exceptional support for one another and sportsmanship. Congratulations Hawks!
